The high excitability of this dog can be misleading – it is quite easily distracted by her; however, he is very intelligent and learns quickly and easily. Generally very affectionate for his family, he loves the company of people. He does not like stagnation, stagnation or stillness.

In youth, attention should be paid to the food given – it must be of very good quality. However, in adulthood, it does not have any special requirements. You should only pay attention to, particularly allergenic products.

Care

Short-haired dogs only need to be combed from time to time, especially during molting periods – unfortunately, parsons molt quite often and profusely. Rough-haired dogs (more common in the breed) do not cause such problems in this respect, but should be trimmed twice a year. You can do it yourself (but you must first learn how to do it correctly so as not to cause pain to the dog) or in a professional grooming salon. You should also check your dog’s teeth regularly.

History

The creator of the parson russell terrier is a pastor – John (Jack) Russell from Devon, England, who lived in the nineteenth century (died in 1883). The Reverend was very passionate about cynology – he became one of the founders of the British Kennel Club. While still a student, he was the owner of a small white terrier named Trump, whose company made an unforgettable impression on him – in fact, he considered her the perfect dog for the rest of his life and aimed to create a breed with the appearance and behavior of Trump.

Jack Russell crossed utility terriers, paying more attention to their features useful for work than appearance. As a result, short- and high-legged dogs appeared within the breed. At that time they were simply called “working terriers” – “working terriers”. The name “jack russell” began to appear only in the 1930s.

After World War II, there was a steady increase in interest in this breed, and actually not yet breed, because the British Kennel Club recognized it only in 1990! It was then called Parson Jack Russell Terrier.

About ten years later, it was decided to divide the breed, considering the height and proportions of the figure as the main criterion – and so today we have long-legged parsons (parson russell terrier) and short-legged jacks ( jack russell terrier ).

Australians made a huge contribution to the isolation of low-legged dogs as a separate breed, breeding a large population of these very even-type dogs.

While in the past they were used to exterminate rodents and in hunting – as burrow dogs, driving foxes and badgers out of their hiding places – nowadays they most often play the role of companion and sport dogs.

Interesting facts

Parsons – in the old days constituting one breed with short-tailed jacks – were once primarily hunting dogs. Because they were so small, they were transported to the hunting place on horseback – hunters carried them in juk-bags on a horse’s back.

The favorite dogs of Prince Charles’s wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles (Princess of Cornwall), are two parson russell terrier dogs: Beth and Bluebell. The duchess took them from the shelter in Battersea.

The first dog in the world to visit both poles – the south and the north – was parson Bothy, belonging to the English explorer and explorer Ranulph Fiennes.
